Within the expanses of the 680,000-acre Anza-Borrego Desert State Park you will find magnificent trails to match every hiker's abilities. Whether your interests lie in the historic, the pre-historic, or appreciating natural beauty, the park holds something special for you.

At most times of the year you will find water flowing at this country's largest natural palm oasis, and will often see the endangered Peninsular Big Horn Sheep (Borrego) for which the park is named. The park visitors center holds regularly scheduled lectures, slide shows, and nature walks. The schedule can be found at:

The Borrego Valley Inn provides each guest room with books on the area for your use in exploring the park. Get a copy of "Afoot and Afield in San Diego County", by Jerry Schad (Wilderness Press), before you come, to really be prepared to go out and experience the park on your own two feet. Jerry appears to have been everywhere, and his knowledge of our trails is impressive, accurate and usually up-to-date.

And while you're here, don't miss the A.B.D.N.H.A. store, filled with maps and excellent books on the flora, fauna, archaeology, and trails of the surrounding area.

We're always happy to share our favorite routes, and to hear what you see when you're out and about. HOME
